Though the Panama Canal

Going through the Panama Canal was an exciting experience. When I came up to the entrance in the middle of the night, there was a big neon arrow pointing us into one of two gates. As the gates opened I heard the water rushing out like a group of wild buffalo. I heard the boat’s engines slow as they tried to keep the boat in the same spot as the water struggled past the gate. As we entered in the first chamber, I looked up to a tram that would pull our boat through all the chambers. There were people in the trams and along the wall of the chambers to help keep the ropes tight. I heard another boat engine slow as a military escort came into the same chamber. When we were all hooked up to the tram the giant gates started to close behind us making creaking sounds. Over the creaking sound, I heard the people on the walls yelling to one another. When the gate completely closed, there was a shuttering sound which was the latches securing the gate so it would not open. At once I heard another loud engine start up it was the water pump. When I looked to the center of the chamber, I saw that there was water being pushed in to this chamber, making the boats rise up. As I felt the boat moving up, I got an exciting rush of adrenalin jolting though my body like lighting. Once the first chamber was full, we were pulled in to another one. This continued for two or three more chambers, until we were in the canal. Once I was in the canal it was like going through a fenced river in the jungle. I could hear birds singing songs and other animals joined the bird’s melody. Overcoming the jungle melody started by the birds was the low rumble of the boat’s engine and passengers of the boat. When I got to the other side of the canal, we repeated the process all over again. There was an arrow that showed us what chamber we were supposed to be in as well as the military escort. The only thing different was that the water was being let out of the chambers instead of in. And when I got to the last chamber the adrenalin was gone and that fun exciting feeling had left me as the night sky turned into the light of day.
